What? 2018 Summer Reading Program Artwork Design Contest: Book Your Summer!

Submit your entry for a chance to have your original artwork selected to be the official design for the Hudson Area Public Library’s 2018 Summer Reading program!

When? Monday, January 30, 2018 - Monday, February 27, 2018

Submissions are accepted at and at your Hudson Area Public Library. The winning design will be selected by the Hudson Area Public Library staff and will be used for all 2018 Summer Reading materials. First prize artwork will be featured on all publicity including posters, the website, and other materials.

How to enter: Send an email to: Be sure to include a written description (1-3 sentences) of the artwork. Attach a digital file of your artwork to the email. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on February 27, 2018 OR bring a hard copy of your artwork to the Hudson Area Public Library by 8:00 p.m. on February 27, 2018. Make sure your name and contact information is on the back of or attached to the artwork. Winning entries will need to provide a digital file of artwork to the Library.

What are we looking for?

  • Represents the Summer Reading theme “Book your Summer!”
  • Designs must be the original work of the entrant.
  • Computer-generated images may be used, but all components must be completely original. You may not use any copyrighted or copied images.
  • Designs should be in color, and should also look good in black and white.
  • Should not include any copied or copyrighted materials.

What Types of Artwork Are Eligible?

The artwork must represent the Teen Summer Reading theme “Book Your Summer”

Hardcopy design must include artwork on 8 1/2” X 11” paper.

Email submissions must be in PDF (must be high-resolution). Complete a separate email and a scanned entry form for each piece of artwork submitted.

Designs must be the original work of the entrant. Copyrighted materials will be disqualified.

Designs should be in color. (Note: The colors you use need to be easily reproducible online and on paper. Please keep in mind that your art-work will also be reproduced in black and white.)

All components must be completely original. You may not use any copied images.

Limit two (2) entries per contestant.

What are the Awards?

Prizes will be awarded for First and Second Place.

First Prize: $100 Amazon gift card

Second Prize: $50 Amazon gift card

How will the artwork be selected? Entries will be judged based on adherence to contest requirements. Pieces that are considered acceptable will be judged by a panel of Hudson Area Public Library staff and select members of the library’s Teen Advisory Board. Judging will take place in early March. Awards will be announced Friday March 10, 2018. The decision of the judges is final.

Submission Guidelines: A hard copy entry must be submitted to the Hudson Area Public Library no later than 8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 27, 2018 OR digital entry of the design must be submitted by email to in accordance with the Entry Form re-quirements by 11:59 P.M. on Monday, February 27, 2018.

  • Entries will not be accepted by mail.
  • All entries will be acknowledged.
  • All entries must include a completed entry form. Hardcopy entries must have the entry form paper clipped to the artwork and in-clude a signed copy of the Summer Reading Artwork Contest Rules. Hardcopy entries must be signed on the back of the artwork.
  • Digital entries should include a description of the artwork (1-3 sentences) and a scanned copy of the entry form and signed and scanned copy of the Summer Reading Artwork Contest Rules.
  • Parent and / or guardian must sign entry form for entrants age 12 –16 years

The contest eligibility is limited to amateur artists aged 12-18 at time of submission. The Hudson Area Joint Library / Hudson Area Public Library (HAJL / HAPL) shall have the right to verify, in its sole judgment, entrant and winner eligibility. The contest is void where prohibited.

What Rights will Hudson Area Joint Library / Hudson Area Public Library Retain in Submitted Designs?

Your entry to the contest constitutes a grant from you to the HAJL / HAPL of a free perpetual non-exclusive license authorizing your design to be displayed by HAJL / HAPL or by third parties with HAJL / HAPL’s permission, to be used on the Hudson Area Public Library website, and to be used in Hudson Area Public Library’s marketing and promotional materials. Entries must be free of claims and rights of third parties. HAJL / HAPL re-serves the right to make minor modifications to art, text and context. HAJL / HAPL is not responsible for damage to or theft of artwork.

What Rights Will Entrants Retain?

Entrants retain all other rights to future use of their artwork except as specified.

May Entrants Sell their Design?

Yes, but the purchaser must be advised that HAJL / HAPL retains the rights enumerated in “WHAT RIGHTS WILL HUDSON AREA JOINT LIBRARY / HUDSON AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY RETAIN IN SUBMITTED DESIGNS?”

GENERAL AGREEMENT: Submission of an entry to the contest automatically constitutes the contestant's acceptance of all conditions set forth in the above rules. Entries not complying with the above rules will be disqualified.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: Participants agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless all contest sponsors, HAJL / HAPL, the Hudson Area Joint Library municipal partners, and partner organizations, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, offic-ers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and / or damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any artwork submitted or any prize awarded hereunder. HAJL / HAPL as-sumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms. HAJL / HAPL is not respon-sible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Contest.
